Nice work on that cockpit dude, it really looks nice. Those screens look quite good, are they painted?

Hi all some progress on this, seems like araldite (if very slow) is the best thing for fixing the big bits. have to remember to wait for it to cure. but boy its solid!!

My desk looks so cool right now

Way cool. I must remember that. It would be easier to work with than the CA which bonds it all straight up no matter what position the wings are in. Using the resin bits from the Verlinden Tiger has reminded me how much of a paint the CA is to use on large parts.

So the funny thing its the exact opposite CA bonds NOW! But hopelessly brittle for resin... especially bigger load bearing stuff like the wings

Araldite,... you have to pin it,... clamp it...sticky tape it, all in place and wait for about 5 hours and DO NOT TOUCH such a pain...

This airplane is seriously heavy in big solid resin chunks, i mean seriously heavy

Close to paint now, have the wings on and engines, just checking panel lines after sanding.

The fit so far, so so needs adjusting a dremel helps! way to hard to sand. there are some discrepancies in the mould, only noticeable if you draw a line down the middle and compare one side with the other.

Other wise its a top kit, and the weight and look feels good..

first prime to check the lines and gaps

full prime and dry fit of the tail

All the migs, so err- Mig 31 Firefox, Mig 25 Foxbat, Mig 31 Foxhound

Nice progress mate. With such a weighty model, what are the landing gear made of or is it a wheel up model?

its this high impact nylon type plastic very hard and not brittle like the resin stuff so will stand up to it i think

so the fit on the engine pod was a bit out, but resin is easy to carve up, out comes the dremmel and I use thick X1 to cover the small seams!!

Now tail and fins on, rudders on, all ailerons on (for some reason there are 3) all primed, found a few spots that need correcting, will sort that out tomorrow and get the base coat on.

What I can't believe is that they never tried to make one that would fly. Interestingly, the planes from Independence Day II are very similar in design to this.

So paint on, not far from decals now!! its a mix of burnt iron and nato black, with matt black for the de-icing panels etc..

Its just come out of a future coat which is why the finish still looks a bit blotchy.

hope fully all done tomorrow!

Yep, that's really nice. Why can't everyone just have straight black planes? I'd have that on my shelf any day.

Dude, that came out awesome! Such a wicked looking aircraft, and so futuristic when the movie first came out. Still looks mean even now.
You did a top job on it, one to be proud of for sure!

They aren't straight black either, the Firefox is a mixture of NATO Black and Burnt Iron, with only the de-ice panels being XF-1 (hard to see will post a clearer picture)

My SR-71 is a mixture of NATO Black with a few drops of XF-54 post shaded with a very thin XF-1,.. still got my F-117 and F-19 (yes the frisbee) to build!!!
