So I need some relief modelling after building the millennium falcon. There's the BOB build but I won't finish that in time and I don't think I have it in me for another big effort build right away, so I'm building this 1:72 Hasegawa Macross kit.
I'm not really taken with the paint scheme so will do a "fictional" build

Having a look at the pieces, it's a little confusing. Unlike a regular aircraft, I don't have any knowledge for reference for the parts, so I'm laying things out slowly and having a good think about how I will paint it.

I started putting some of the parts together starting with the cockpit which is standard, and the wing assembly

I think I'll do a low-vis British Air Force scheme. Does anyone have spare or left over 1:72 modern RAF low-vis decals or know where I can source some?

Cheers mate. As long as it's fun. There seem to be a number of different schemes you can do based on the Macross universe.

if like like you shoulda put a ring around it - i mean circle the bits you want and i will send them to you.

I just need the decals for the hawk top pic,... its a anniversary repaint to resemble the old RAF bomber scheme,...looks very cool

the low viz are from the typhoon, bottom.

Mate, that would be mint. Just those few from the bottom Typhoon would be brilliant. So the lo-viz ones, the squadron crest and a set of the aircraft numbers if that's ok mate. :cheer:

After a full on week at work running a conference, I finally got some more time today at the bench. Job number 1 was painting the cockpit so I could put it all together. I was going to paint it a mid grey

But decided on Nato Black instead. Given the choice to do a "fictional" paint scheme, I think I get to take liberties with the details.

While those parts were drying, I carried on with the build, putting the tail area together.

I've never done a kit like this and with limited knowledge of the makeup of the plane, I'm learning a lot putting this together. Like putting together moving parts like the swing wing mechanism. Swing might be a bit of a stretch given the range of movement, but they still move.

I took care putting the halves together and will be ensuring I'll keep moving the parts during the build to keep them free.

I'm also learning a lot about the make up of the other parts like these intakes, and having to plan the painting strategy as I go.

I'm also doing this as a wheels up model. This means altering the doors as they aren't built for this by default. The wheel bay is quite deep too

Wondering how I would support the doors as I put them in, I had a master stroke and filled in the wheel bay with some foam. It worked great but the fit of the doors wasn't great.

Another movable part are the exhaust nozzles. These will be painted with metalizers

Once the cockpit parts were dry, I brush painted the pilot in an imaginary scheme

And using the brush I use for buffables, I dry brushed details on the fairly sparse cockpit.

Because of how I will be painting this, I need to do a bit of assembly after painting. I'm having to keep the parts organised.

Thanks mate. As well as looking at what I'm learning about the building, I'm really looking at using this as a chance to push my painting skills, but that means preparation as much as anything.

Yeah. It was a mech / plane anime. I didn't see it very often but enough that it left an impression on me. Google Macross

Cheers K2.
Finishing off the final bits for the build, but found some of the visible parts of the engine nacelles are showing the ejector pin marks. A bit of putty on them, and the front wheel well doors to flatten them out should do the trick. Next will be masking the canopy and some of the other glass bits.

It actually goes together pretty well Mike. No real fit issues and the engineering is quite nice, so it should allow some transformation. There will be some clean up and there were little bits if flash around done of the small cockpit parts, but it's 1:72 so I guess that's excusable. Quite enjoying this build so far and looking forward to getting her into paint.
