AMT ERTL Eagle 1 from Space 1999 was created by Gary
I've been watching Space 1999 this past few evenings and for it's age it's actually been really enjoyable, yeah it's corny and the special effects aren't that special but the stories and plots hold up and make for good Sci-Fi TV (for the most part).
This made me finally dig out my old Eagle transporter, it's a bit of an old dog (but so am I).

Updates to follow.

Was made in the late 70s but is compulsory Sunday evening viewing for us if only to see what Maya changes into!
Airfix have a model also and when you consider the age of the programme the models are ahead of their time in the programme.

I'm old enough (just) to remember watching the pilot episode on tv and always loved the Eagles. Anything with a Gerry Anderson origin is good by me!

Actually it was made in the early 70s and though this is not an accurate kit it is fun to build. I have some 12 Eagles in different scales, being a big fan of this and the other Anderson shows. The eagle is an utter Icon.

This particular kit was actually made in 1998.

Anyway it's update time, not had much chance to get on with it lately but it's not too far away. Next steps are to thin back the warm grey oil paint I've used as a panel liner and then to mist some white back over it to take away some of the harsh lines and overwash.
Then it's full steam ahead for the black cockpit panels and decals, considering the number of planets they visited in the series and the probably lack of water to wash the damn things it's surprising how white they looked on TV, I think I'll make mine a bit more "realistic".
Hope you enjoy, it's just a bit of fun no need to look too close. ;)

Looking very nice. These were originally painted Ford Diamond white. Its a little bright. This looks very good the way youve weathered it. It is roughly based on the 2nd 1:24 made for the show. The 1:23 one I've been working on for years just needs the cages finished. I really need to do that before I lose the parts. I think I could actually do it now.

Looking nice G1. What did you use to paint the burner cans?

All the base coats are on now, I've still got a couple of decals to put on, also need to re add the little attitude thruster things that I had to cut off because I forgot the black/white crosses on the outriggers. I also need to weather it.
I've decided to put it on a base as it's a bit flimsy, I cut some 5mm MDF and put a bit of an edge around it.
I won the plastic "lunar scape" at the Armistice model show last year, it looks a bit naff but it's actually quite good considering you get two in a pack and it's not that bad.
Since taking these photos I coated it with watered down PVA and then sprinkled Plaster of Paris on it to give it a nice texture. I then sprayed a sealer on and redusted it with more Plaster, it's starting to look quite convincing considering it's humble start. I'll probably turn some small clear rods up from left over clear sprue parts to make it look like it's very flying low or just hovering.

Enjoy, comments welcome.

That looks cool Gary. Be cool if it's hovering to see some blast effects. I wonder if that can be done with an airbrush. I manage to do it when I'm just trying to paint. :pinch:

Looks very nice. Always like the Eagle, but the Hawk is much cooler :)

Once you've tackled that, you might want to sink your teeth into this one :)

Nice kit, it's on my wish list to add to the stash.

Wee update while working on the Hurri (which is painful to say the least).
The base was coated in diluted PVA and then sprinkled with Plaster of Paris, I blended the edges of the plastic terrain with Sculptamold and again sprinkled Plaster on. This was then coated with a Spray fixer and more plaster spread on. Final coat before painting was a clear coat from a rattle can.
Next up was a coat of matt black rattle can, this was overlaid with a dark grey base and then a white coat again all rattle cans.
I still need to do a bit of blending and weathering to the terrain, make the clear rods for the Eagle and then finish the weathering.

Very cool. I remember my brother building one of these when I was just a sprog. Dunno what happened to it... although knowing me... I probably broke it.

Thanks guys.
Tony the only decals on there so far are the ones on the end of the landing struts. The red stripes and the black cockpit sections are masked and sprayed.

Yes, very very cool... love it.
I had an Eagle when I was very small, but that was pre-1998, more like 1980's ish...
love the lunar land scape as well.
