The sections you've cleaned off so far look just awesome. Remember this is a flying tank so the look you have coming together is just as you'd expect. Fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy.

Hey Kane, the wash looks awesome! It looked really good as it was, now it's really looking the part. Did you apply the wash over a gloss coat? I'm thinking of ordering some of these washes and always wondered if they'd still work well over gloss.

Thanks all. Planning and running a hui for all our staff in the next few weeks so I don't know how much time I'll get on this, but I'll be sure to get a lot of the was off this weekend. Just got back from doing the groceries with wifey and she didn't even ask when i put a couple of cotton buds and makeup removal pads in the shopping trolley.

Yeah, these clay washes have to go over a gloss coat, otherwise they get stuck right into any matte surface and can be a bugger to clean out. Let us know if you do want to order anything. Another group order could be on the go.

I'll be keen if that happens. I need to try these on the basis of what I've seen on here. :)

I've spent the night in front of the tv cleaning off the wash, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Will have another look in daylight though as I'm sure there will be more little bits to do.

lol, she does thanks. Still a bit to go.
I knocked back a lot of the wash by using a bug brush to get rid of any excess. Made it look a lot better. Then I just got the dry brushes out with Citadel's Ryza Rust and Armageddon Dirt to lay down the next lot of wear

Rust doesnt look so bad I think.

And added it on the otherside before putting a matte coat on. Next stage, oils.

What's the plan with the oils? Streaking?

This is looking great. There are some inspiring builds going on here at the moment. Good work chaps. B)

I dont know about skills guys. Up close it's a bit rough and maybe using oils for the first time on this wasn't the best idea, but I do think iv'e bought a lot of my learning over the past year into this.

I managed 30 minutes in the cave today. Ive been playing around with the exhaust fumes on the top of the Falc, but haven't been happy with the result. Part of it is learning oils, but I settled on a semi finished look. I also wasn't happy with the supposedly grey decals, which are more beige, so using an oil mix, I have painted over top of them on the top side and gun turrets.
File Attachment:

Then using a brush I have stippled out all the bush marks leaving a texture I'm hoping will settle down a little, but if it doesn't, I can live with it. I think it looks much better than the beige panels.

I thought it looked a bit weird with the beige panels on there, but didn't think too much of it as it still looked good. But does look better now with the grey panels.

Must be very very close to finishing?

Close, but the oils take 24 hours to dry enough for me to do the next stage so it's a slow walk to the finish. The only thing left to do on this side is the streaking and a bit more muddying up the bays. Then I'll probably do another flat coat and repeat on the underside. Running a hui next week for our staff across the Pacific so not much will be done then.

Just caught up with this one. Awesome stuff man. Nice perseverance to stick at it :woohoo:

I've seen a few armour builders use a hairdryer to speed up oil drying times. Something to consider if you want shorter than 24 hour drying times?

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Also thinning with lacquer thinners speeds up the drying time to about an hour or less (at least in my experience).

You can use these instead of turps?

And thanks for the comments all (and double claps Mav ;) )

Yes but try it on some scrap first until you get used to how it works, another method to increase drying time is to squeeze out the oil on to some kitchen paper and leave it for an hour or so before you use it.
