While I've working on the Phantom I've also been building this wee beasty.

But not as you see it, inside the box I found some extra sprues that would let me add a cockpit with a pilot. However there was no mention of these sprues in the instructions and the only thing on the net that kind of gives a variation is this.

But I didn't really want some brutish looking thing hanging off the front, the whole thing even comes with a full canopy. I got it off Mighty Ape market place half price as the box was water damaged so I don't know the full history of it.
Anyway he whole thing is nice but not a lot of thought went it to the design, when you look at the air intakes you could see right inside the ship as you could from the front. So at the back I constructed a filler and put some pipe work and cables in (which have since been painted) to close off the holes so you can't see inside.

It's the same from the front, huge great holes in to the body of the ship with no detail, so I blanked off the intakes and created some louvers to hide things, and added some mesh and a circle to the fan duct to make it look like air is being pulled through the ship (or at least that's the look I'm going for).

The hull sections are now all joined and I'll take some more pics when I get time and get back on to it.

Awesome! One of the first things I did on my Fledermaus was to block off the inside too ......... odd how companies ignore that stuff.

Didn't touch it - NOT my fault ..........

Just an update with some new photos of the progress. Getting to grips with the cockpit, not having any instructions and nowt on the net has made things a bit slower than usual, but it's been enjoyable scratching stuff. The central console is scratched and the dials are photoshopped, cut out and then covered in clear colours, I over did the clear red a bit and you can barely see the dials, almost ready for the pilot but I might add some more clutter to the cockpit to add some character.

I think I have some in progress photos on the other camera but I took these tonight and thought I'd share. I'm currently building a base for it, I'm going to make it snowy and cold hence the red cheeks on the pilot etc (the camera made them look even redder). I'm also going to have a go at the old spraying of the cotton wool smoke effects and make it look like 3 of 4 engines are ignited and the 4th hasn't hence the thumbs down.
Hope you like the photos.

Saw this over on FB and I have to agree with the others, It came out looking superb. I guess you are gunning for 1st place sci fi at armistice this year? :woohoo: because I think you'll get it with this, especially if the base/dio is half as good as this wee beasty!

In Soviet Russia, Iron Curtain GB builds you!

Thanks all, was nice to work on this one, I was able to try some different techniques and some old ones like hairspray, I used hairspray straight from the can on this one.

Thanks for the compliments mate, thought it was going to slip off the page unnoticed.
No it's from the Science Fiction realms of Machinen Krieger which are kind like a Steam Punk world, as in more of a "what if" the war had continued or what if technology had followed a different path etc.

I'm not much of a one for the scifi models usually but this is stunning. The work on the painted areas is amazing.

Gary, that weathering is perfect. I've not seen any as good either. The only thing that suggests this is a model is the model figure. The guy is much bigger/ the plane much smaller than I expect. It's so impressive it's not funny mate. Wow.

Wow! I am not a fan of sci-fi unless it is Star Wars, and even then, I'm not what I would really call a 'fan'... but this is bloody impressive. Love all the weathering!

Really like this one Gary and a very nice choice of colours , that blue really pops with the metal finishes. You have also done just the right amount of weathering without over powering the subject... Great job!

Thanks again guys, AK Interactive featured it on their Facebook page and since then it's been shared on literally dozens of other sites. Would of been better if they had just shared my status instead of just grabbing 5 pics and sharing them with no link to the original source, but hey it's nice to have my name in lights if only for a brief while :D
