Hey all, I don't really have a lot of pics of this one being built up. My partner started this a wee while ago, got as far as building the gun and the turrets, and then saw the camo scheme and gave up. I've always loved the Tirpitz, so I'm giving it a go to finish it.

I had to pull some of the work apart she had done to get the towers straight, but otherwise this is an OOB build. I will be getting PE for any more ships I do, even at 1/700 as it just adds so much more detail.

The hull was masked and sprayed, and the towers are having to be hand painted. I have done about two thirds of one side, in one colour so far... got a while to go...

Couple of pics up for tonight.

Pre-painting the towers

Towers painted tonight. Trying to get those lines straight, and the paint even is a pain in the arse.

Cheers Nos - I use very fine brushes, and take a very long time. Doing this paint job is doing my head in a bit, I can't wait to build a 1/350 one day. The amount of detail I'd be able to put into that will be very satisfying. But until then... 1/700 it is lol

Looking awesome mate. Bismarck & Tirpitz are two of my favourite German warships. Lovely lines.

I haven't built that scale before, but scored it off TM for $10.50 - was an off chance of me winning, only put a 50c bid on it lol.

When I talked about enjoying doing small detail - Enjoy some jap subs I built - I-16 and I-58 - tiny bloody things.

I am making progress on the Tirpitz... slowley. Almost painted all the super structure, and close to glueing the smaller guns on, and then on to the next step, which includes the life boats and aircraft. Getting there, hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be back on to my F-15

Ok so this is where I am up to. I have painted all the super structure, and that was a bloody mission. I know it's not perfect, I would prefer to have built the towers up from the base then I would have been able to mask everything and spray it, and put it together like a jigsaw lol. But hey, working with what I've got, and I'm not too disappointed.

The smaller guns are just put in place, and will soon be glued and I will paint them into the camo scheme as well. Then a few more things to add and she will be almost done. The instructions include a decal Red flag to be put on the deck... but it is a decal, and right over the anchors chains... So i'm going to spray that. If I put the decals on, they wont form properly, and will end up ruining the finish I have done. So "scratch decaling" will be required on this part. That should happen over this weekend.

With any luck I will be finished Sunday night, and be able to carry on with my F-15 next week!!

My she's a tiny thing... not as small as the subs though!

So all the towers and the guns have been painted. Have spent the night making and painting the life boats... there's a fair few!! But I am pretty happy with the result, they look pretty good.

Only a few more things to go, cranes, the aircraft and installing all the life boats. Then I might look at putting a little weathering on her, just to look like she's been in the ocean for a bit :)

A great little armada. I always felt sorry for the Tirpitz, it never really got the chance to prove its worth being hidden away after the sinking of the Bismarck.

So so so nearly there. I have made the AR196 - attached all the life boats and cranes have been built (not quite finished with them, they will need to be glued in and painted a bit better.

The swastika on the bow of the ship is close to being done, red flag and white circle has been done - tomorrow comes the actual black part, going to be interesting.

Wait for it

Wait for it....

BOOM!! - tiny little bugger!!!

Alright guys, I'm calling this one 'semi'-finished. I have discovered how to make the rigging for this thing (check the cranes if you can see it), but I don't have an extra thin glue. So until I have that, I am not going to try and do the rigging. It's a great, and very easy method, so if you would like to know hit me up.

These are some pics, I will make a new thread at some stage in the next day or two with better pics, and a bit of a write up.

Also - I don't know how to edit the main title of the thread to ** FINISHED ** - so if someone could point me in that direction I would be greatly appreciative.

Wouldn't want to sneeze on that Arado... you would loose it for good!
Excellent job K2 on both the Tirpitz and float plane... and especially at that small scale.
Always eager to learn new tips & tricks so if go on... spill it re your rigging method. ;)

That looks really cool! I've only ever built one or two ships (in my much younger days!) but I found myself spending much longer than I consider healthy in the ship aisle in a big model shop in Japan yesterday.
Even though I have a ridiculous stash of car models and a growing one of 1/72 aircraft, the "ship itch" is getting stronger.....and lovely builds like this are not helping :P
Cheers

Cheers Tania,

This is my 3rd 1/700 ship (I count the two Jap subs as one lol), but this was the most rewarding. I would love to get into the 1/350 ships at some point, but I have many others that I am looking at building that are in my stash. I think it's cool putting a ship together, and I think it's a great challenge (specially this bloody scale).
