With the Nashorn awaiting paint, into the next project. Tamiya's new Panther D :woohoo:

This is being built with a few extras. Tamiya's Panther D track links and PE grill set. I have the Tamiya metal barrel set, but may not use it, as they expect you use the two piece kit muzzle brake :pinch: I do have a Voyager metal barrel set on the way.

The kit + extras

Inside the box

Going for this finish from the Kagero Panzerwaffe 41-43 book

Back into it after some shut eye

Ive a similar list, Panzer Art, XXL, and Aber from the excellent Achtung panzer Shop in Poland. Going to use the new Tamiya track set for this, love how they assemble and unlike FM will not have to pull out a link in two years due to stretch! :P

That looks really nice. B)
I have been very tempted to grab one of these, but for the time being will just have to settle for the elderly Ausf A currently in the stash.
Need to build a few more before I make any more purchases. (Famous last words ;))
Out of curiosity... do you mind my asking how much were the Tamiya tracks and were you able to source them locally?
Following with interest.

Hopefully they have much more detail than their old indi tracks. Brilliant at the time, but they lacked all guide horn detail.

They certainly are the guide horns look as good as Model Kasten. ;)

Update time B)

Continued work on the hull today. Had to do a little detail painting for pieces sealed under the upper hull. I just brush painted them XF-19, using a jar of Tamiya colour that must be close to 15 years old if not more  it is still in the old 23ml pot :woohoo:

Pics

According to NZ Post tracking my parcel from Hobbyeasy has arrived in the country. This has the Voyager barrel set I ordered to replace the half attempt from Tamiya :pinch: Fingers crossed it makes the morning postie run. I'm hoping to get into construction of the turret tomorrow evening. A few solid hours at the bench should see this one ready for primer in the next day or two, then it is on to the Bf 109E-4 for the BoB GB

Certainly pushing through on this one! Looking good though, along with those extras this should be a good build to follow

Have solved the stretched track problem by using a better grade of wire for the pins,The Warehouse used to sell rolls of picture wire which pretty much makes a 1/35 scale track pin,the other solution is to use sewing pins for the larger/heavier AFV's eg"Tiger 11, Elefant ,E100,best I've found for these are sourced from $2 shops
Cheers :cheer:

Quick update :)

I forgot about the changes to NZPost, and that we only get mail deliveries certain days of the week :pinch: and ours isn't a Monday  so no luck with the barrel arriving. It killed my plans for the afternoon, and I didn't get as much done as planned.

Still, I've got most of the hull complete now. It only needs the PE grills, spare track links and tow cables to be sorted.

Fingers crossed my parcel arrives in the morning, then it will be the push to get construction wrapped up tomorrow.

I've decided against fitting the Tamiya gun breech parts, as I'll be finishing this one hatches down. I'll sell it to put the funds towards a tow cable set for this

Andrew, did they give you periscopes for the four front periscope holes? Worth cutting up some plastic and slotting it in to give the impression if they haven't. That's a wonderfully clean build. A very nice looking example straight from the factory.

Update time

The Voyager metal barrel set arrived the other day, so I made the final push to get this one to the ready for paint stage :woohoo:

I just need to sort aftermarket tow cables, and the schurzen mounts, then the tracks.

I hit a hiccup with the planned winter whitewash finish. I should've looked at the reference pic better, as it doesn't have the turret mounted smoke dischargers. I'm going to go with this one, also from the Kagero Panzerwaffe 41-43 book.

Tempted to get another to do the winter whitewash version without the smoke dischargers.

You could just cut them off. The other thing to consider is that the extra mud guards on the front were rarely seen, certainly at the front. You also rarely see them on model builds so its rather nice to see the whole configuration in place for a change. Only a few of these went out without Zimmerit, this example above and the white washed one being good examples of these.

Apart from the schurzen mounts (which I'll add after painting and fitting the tracks) this is ready for paint.

Update In Stash:
Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.

Still WIP Ian  Looking to get into some painting at the end of the week. We have our first rental inspection on Wednesday, so the next few days are going to be spent getting ready for that. Need to mow the lawns, and remove some crayon graffiti that my little guy has put on the hallway wall

Base colour on this too.

Bit of a hiccup. Noticed the muzzle brake had a bit of a visible gap. Had to pull it off, clean it up, glue it together again. Will need to prime and paint. Had also forgotten about the side skirts. I'll need to get those cleaned up and painted
