Hi all. I Have decided to make a new dio due to the fact you can only pack up so much house without having to go through boxes to grab something you packed away, and the length of time this is taking ARGH !!!!!!

So this is going to be loosely based on kiwi's in Italy, moving through some country road between towns.

Cheers for looking

Can you tell me where you got your Dragon Commonwealth Infantry?
Been after them for a while, but most out of stock, and ebay prices are a bit high...
Thanks Grant

Great idea. I'm also collecting kits for an Italianish theme. IThe title wil be be something like 'Somewhere in the Med 1944' which will be based around a naval coastal forces advanced base. The centre piece will be a pair of 1:35th Italeri Vosper MTBs. The Kiwi link is that several of these craft had members of the RNZNVR as their officers. This will be a combined diorama and model railway as the wharf will also festure a 2 foot narrow gauge line carrying torpedos and the like from storage.

Yay finally made a start, not to much so far but it's something.
Dragon fig glued up, bit of filler here and there then a prime, but will probably wait until all the figures are made before doing that.
Universal carrier started, also early stages, once that gets to prime stage i'll move onto the Sherman :-)
Cheers for looking in

Nice idea Tiger. Great reference photo too.

I'll be watching in closely on this one. Hope you like some complexity in your builds - that Dragon Sherman III is a great kit and , just like the one I'm building, can be tricky and time consuming. Beautiful detail tho . . . just don't take the instructions as being accurate; do some research for parts placement, colour schemes and such.

Have Fun

And an awful lot of Kiwi dollars it is too! Wow!
Which is not to say it wouldn't be a grand addition.
I'm really looking forward to watching this develop Tiger. It is such a great subject choice.
Cheers

I'm definitely with the others here Tiger, Great choice of subject, and that ACM Kiwi Sherman Crew would look Outstanding in your composition. And that's a lot of Kiwi$ which would be worth every cent in adding value to your dio . . .

My two bob's wurf . . . ;)

We need to get G1 to talk with Andy Cairns who is A C Models. He is a semi regular poster here on KM. Maybe we can get some sort of discount for the KM shop :woohoo:

I did talk very briefly with Andy last year about it but he was a bit lack lustre with the idea, mainly I think because we're not seen as a retailer. I believe you can get 15% off of the shop price at Modelcrafts & Hobbies, and ModelAir when you mention us. I'm always open to negotiation though if you are reading this Andy ;)

Hi Guys
Thanks for the input, I have seen these fella b4 at Model Crafts and Hobbies In Welly. Yes they are expensive and I couldn't justify spending that much on 4 figures and a bit of stowage. They would look sooooooo good though.
I'm I there nearly every day, I should go back and see what they can do $
Any way been a bit slack the last week or two so no new pics yet.
Again thanks for your input guys.

Hi there. Things have been going at Glacial speed, with house hunting and all going on there has not been much time to get into the cave.
So here is where I am at the moment.
Cheers

A few more figures to go yet, if there weren't so many I would be hollowing out the sleeves etc just for the extra detail, but na

Well after nearly a year on the market my house finally sold a few weeks ago. now left the thriving metropolis of Levin ( NOT ) and moved back to Paraparaumu.
Looking forward to setting up a new man cave and getting back into this build, can't wait.

Hi there.
Things are still going slow with this one although I do have some pics to put up soon. It will probably come to a halt when my goodies turn up for the D Day build.
Reason for this post is, I have made a really bad job with the front guards on my Sherman ( first attempt at PE ) and I'm wondering if someone out there has some spare plastic ones off an old kit or in their box of bits. If not I will probably have a shot at making some out of sheet plastic.
Any ideas appreciated.
Cheers

Hi there people
Little update on the Dio.
All figures now ready for primer and paint, fair bit of painting here
Small steps I guess and don't rush just to get them done.

I don't have any spare PE guards Tiger, but I could photocopy one of the PE frets I do have and send you that to use as a template for cutting them from thin sheet styrene?

Nothing like lots of figures to make a scene nice and busy :woohoo:

Thanks chaps
Lots of figures, yes  I have a couple of others for backup if the Universal carriers chaps turn to custard.
Thanks for the offer Andrew but I'm going to make this one without the guards, not to sure on the authenticity with no guards but it is what it is.
I have a few pics of the Sherman etc although they will get a little more work done on them tonight :woohoo:
Thought and comments as always appreciated

Cheers Glenn.
I'm actually starting to enjoy this now, it has taken a while to get here.
Got a little done on Sherman last night and now getting close to priming the lot :woohoo:
Any recommendations on a good primer for acrylic paint.
Here is the latest, a few tools to attach and it is done.
Oh yeah, and some nuts to fit to the back end and stowage.

Work to start on base and scenery soon as well.

Thanks for having a look.
As always comments etc appreciated

Some good work happening here Tiger :cheer:

For Primers:
I have used both Mr Surfacer 1000 in rattle can and Tamiya Fine Surface Primer in rattle can. The Mr Surfacer needs just the gentlest of rub-overs with a 1200 grit to offer some purchase for the following paints but I didn't have to do that with the Tamiya Primer. I would also suggest the lightest of rubs over the PE with something very fine to also add purchase for the paint.
For the tracks on my Sherman I used Vallejo's "Panzer Aces" 304 - Track Primer. Brilliant. And that was brushed on with a wide-ish flat brush.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing some more of it in the D-Day GB too . . . ;)
