Finally got round to taking some photos of this wee little thing. I also had a go at one of the figures that came with the kit and I was really suprised at the quality of the figure. I've not painted many figures since returning to modelling (4 in total) and I'm still have issues with getting the tones right but this figure was really nice to paint. I used Acrylics (Tamiya, Valejo and Lifcolour paints) which is a first for me as I always used to do my figures with oils. I think I need to use a bit of a retarder with the paint to give me a bit more time with the blending and reduce the unwanted "texture".

Gary get a sharp 2B pencil and draw the edging on the RK. I'd also add the colour to the colonel's base of shoulder boards. It looks like they're yellow. Beautiful painting on the hat and great coat... and his eyes are wonderful. Its great to see a figure with a fat face... makes me feel at home

RK? The Iron Cross thingy? If so I can paint the edges silver if they were silver? I wasn't sure, I guess I could of checked :D
I was thinking of painting the base boards red but wasn't sure.
For some reason all those greens look the same, they are actually different greens, the tarp isn't the same green as his coat and neither are the shells.

Thanks for that, I can probably manage to get the silver round the cross, what about the shoulder boards? He's basically a General there to oversee or inspect the unloading (or reloading) of the Morser on to the railway assembly. The dio is going to be pretty busy with, trains, tanks, trucks, AA guns, motorcycles etc.

With oak leaves, yes silver is good. A pencil is often easier to control, up to you. Is he to be an artillery colonel, or a general?

Pass, just some nosey git using his rank to get in on the action, as he's keen to see the big gun go BOOM. What would be best I was thinking of someone on the way to Sevastapol, but I'm leaning heavily towards Warsaw West train station on 17 August 1944, where they were unloaded for the bombardment of Warsaw. I just need to make sure I get the camo right, I don't want to do the camaflage scheme like Maarten's I prefer the look of the grey. The later in the war I do it the more options I have for other equipment including using the Sand coloured paint scheme on a tank that will be included (haven't decided which to use yet).

German Army general officer shoulder insignia of WW2:
Generalfeldmarschall (from 4/41) (0), Generalfeldmarschall (to 4/41) (1), Generaloberst (acting Generalfeldmarschall) (to 1940) (2), Generaloberst (3), General (4), Generalleutnant (5), Generalmajor (6)

The one with four pips is fictional. The Generaloberst has three pips, Generalleutnant two, etc. I've never seen the four pips idea anywhere.

I doubt if people will even see this figure with all the others I'm planning to use. Hopefully by the time I finish I'll be better at painting figures :D

Thanks Maarten, back to Sevastopol concept then, just trying to fit my Tiger Early Production from the stash, in somewhere. I've got some other armour in the stash I might be able to shoe horn in ;)

Which kit are you building ? The Initial or the Late ? And which barrel cause that would dictate what colour scheme more than what location as the 54cm barrels didn't get introduced until 1943.

I'm affraid you also couldn't have a Tiger I of any kind at Sevastopol, too early in the war.

If you like grey and want to include armour painted dunklegelb you could go with something like a non-specific point in 1943 when one is about to be over painted in the camo, so it could be 95% grey with some maintenance people starting to repaint it and add the camo.

My wife calls me a curmudgeon. I haven't looked it up but I assume it means "fun loving and free spirited" or some such twaddle. I inform and perform over at www.militarymodels.co.nz and stick my oar in here as well. My passion is WWII 1/35 armour but I'm coming around to liking the odd 1/32 thing...

BTW I really like that Jerry, nice to see a figure that actually looks like he spent a few too many evenings in the sausage and beer halls. Came up really well too.

Thanks Dean, yeah I was pleased with the way the Officer turned out, I'm going to build one of the other figures that came with that set. The more figures I paint hopefully the better I'll get :D
I'm also going to create a new thread about the Karl and move some of these posts over to that as they are helpful.

Anyone would think you had better things to do all day than hang out here fulfilling all our whims.
