Tamiya 1/35 Abrams OIF was created by rwkennard
Hello everyone.

Thought it was about time I posted something on this great web site. Managed to get this kit to a nearly finished state. Just needs a flat coat. I'm thinking of using
Tam's flat coat from the spray can, anyone had experience with this stuff? Keen to know what people thought of it.

About the kit. It is a M1A1HA Marines tank from OIF period. I liked the idea of the dark camo to show up the sand weathering. Also had a go at anti-slip using Tamiya textured paint, dark earth I think it was. I just masked the areas up an dabbed it on with a paint brush. I wanted to use Rustoleum textured paint but couldn't find the right one here in NZ. If anyone has found a textured spray paint in NZ I'd be keen for some, got a Challenger 2 waiting in the wings.

The shackles and antenna mounts are from RB models. I think the shackles are a bit over scale. I had to make the nuts from plastic card. Ration boxes are J's Work items, they come pre-cut. The tow bar is from Trumpeter. I had to lengthen it so it would fit! Everything else on the tank came in the box.

Thanks for looking, hope to be around this website again soon.

Richard.

Hi Gary
Thanks for your reply. The lenses are a clear item painted clear red and the recess it sits in was painted chrome silver. All glued in with P V A. All the gear sitting on the tank is glued on with P V A.

I tried to pm you about a couple of weeks ago but it wouldn't work. Have there been any issues with this or was I doing something wrong?
Cheers,
Richard.

Nice model Richard. The stowage looks good and I do like the streaking on the lower hull and turret.Did you use oils for that ?

Hey Richard, nice to see you finally post something on here. Looking good alright. I have a trumpeter m1a2 on the way from hobbyeasy with some other items (I know the trumpy one isn't as good as the tamiya but it was only $10 NZD so I couldn't say no) and I hope it comes out looking any where near this good.

Hello all

thanks for the comments guys. Glad you like it.

Dave, all the weathering was done with Tamiya Buff acrylic. Streaking was achieved with the buff paint thinned and applied with a wide paint brush.

Gaz, look forward to seeing your Abrams come to life. From what I can remember it's not a bad kit. I think the turret was what put me off.

Thanks for looking,
Richard.

I missed this. Looks great. I like the paint work underneath being covered up for the desert
