The port side was much easier to fix. Just required a single shim of plastic sheet on the under side

Homemade decal applied to overhead console

I also glued the skids together.

I applied some Micro Kristal Klear along the bottom of the engine covers and cleaned excess with a moist cotton bud. I used Kristal Klear because it shrinks slightly when dry (still wet in below photo). This leaves the impression of a panel line rather than filling a gap completely.

I wasn't happy with this step resulting from not getting the alignment correct because (a) it was ugly and (b) the cockpit glass under the nose didn't fit as well as it could. So I gently scored the glue line with a scalpel and then repositioned and reglued.

Canopy masked inside and out. Interior primed and then airbrushed NATO black. Overhead console glued in place. Canopy glued in place. The fit is perfect.

Coming along nicely and good trick with the krystal klear! NATO black is great for a scale black since it is more a very very dark greeny grey rather than a straight black. I normally use it for black parts in cockpits also. I was thinking, whose decals are you going to use? Oldmodels or are you going to add to your decal range? If you do, I will defintiely be in for a set for my kittyhawk huey.

I'm going to be using the decals I'm currently developing. All the artwork is done now. Currently getting all the sizing correct and drawing up and working on the placement guide. Most likely released in the new year unless work slows down. Will be available in 1/35, 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72.

Just finished masking up the windows, inside and out. With a new scalpel blade, I used the doors as templates to cut the masks. Nice and easy way to do it.

Somebody at Kitty Hawk stuffed up the corner on each pane. Not sure how that got past the testing stage. Oh well, easy to fix.

You're doing an awesome job of that huey. Kitty Hawk have done a nice job with the shape of the nose, I was so disappointed with the Revell one being so oversized. The Dragon one was better but still not quite the right shape. Cant wait to see it finished.

Managed to get the broken off thread out of the nozzle and have order a new 0.5 needle and nozzle set as well as a spare from Super Cheap Auto. Will dig out the Iwata 0.3 in the meantime or switch the Blackridge to the 0.3mm.

First of the interior decals applied. I had to paint yellow on the kit part before applying these decals because without a printer capable of printing white ink, you can't get the opacity of the colours correct (this has been the biggest frustration I have encountered with my decals. And to put it bluntly - print houses that I have contacted, who have the capability of printing white inks have been nothing but effing slack).

Decals now applied to main doors. Same requirement with yellow needing to be painted prior to the decals

That sucks about the printers, just need someone with a silk screen printer? My printer here at work can print white, unfortunately as its a UV printer, it lays it down rather thick :(

The issue I'm having with the guys who can do silk screen is that none of them reply to my queries :S

I've been looking at setting something up myself. I just can't justify spending the sort of money required.

Hey mate, are you NZ based?
A friend of mine messaged me today advising he's found someone locally who can do white
I'll do some research and if possible can propose that he becomes a KM decals supplier, most people like the idea of making some coin haha

In the build:
2x Possum Bourne Subaru rally cars
2x Lynx AH-7's
KA-50 Hokum
AH-1W Cobra

Most people like the idea of making their own decals full stop, coin is just an incentive lol
If they are our own designs and can be done in small runs it won't impact Old Johns Decals either so win win.
Find out more Hadley if you can mate.

I'd been keen for more info for sure thanks Hadley.

I'm in contact with a couple of overseas outfits. Print runs are massive, but these places are at the top of the waterslide decal game. I know that the decals will be opaque, colours consistent and stock super thin.

The research, artworking, sizing, resizing, testing and putting the placement guides together was a massive undertaking. I knew it would be hard work, but not as difficult as it turned out to be – I've now sold over 50 sets of the Skyhawk decals locally and internationally. My mind is blown.

Almost ready for primer and paint. The pilot's door will be open and the co-pilot's slighly ajar as the fit when closed isn't great.
