I learnt something yesterday. FW-190 pilots wore a backpack type parachute.

Fortunately I been shopping and had this set.

The moulding is pretty good. Not resin standards of course but pretty good nevertheless.

There is a bit of scraping to clean up the seam lines and it took a wee while getting to all the folds in the uniform.

And I have this little chap waiting for glue.

Once he is together I will cut and prepare the parachute.

Thanks guys.

I am house sitting with my family at the moment so am away from my bench and the majority of my tools.
So while I have no airbrush I am pottering away with knife and glue.

Continued work on the paint.
Feel like I F'd it up a bit. Kept on going with fading & highlights and mixed the colours up on a few panels and now it is just a bit of a Mish mash. A bit much contrast say.
Anyway we will see what the clear coat does to it. Previously I have found that a clear coat mutes the shading a bit so still hopeful.

Anyway, it has a fair bit of paint on it now that needs to fully dry before clear the windshield and clear go on. Will follow that up with the decals.

Figured out why my last bit of fading went adrift,
Used the one on the left instead of the right.

Yup, dick move right there,
Time for a touch up.

In my own experience clear finish coats seem to almost blend or make some pre shades vanish altogether, so fingers crossed you get the look you want. Failing that, post shade the sucker!

I hear you Nos, sometimes I keep going back for touch ups time and again until I am happy although sometimes I get to a 'stuff it, I'm moving' on point .
I did dust over it with the original colour to tie it in a bit.
I built an F-16 a while ago Terry and used the 'less is more' method, slight graduation over the airframe and that is what happened after clear coating. Uniform grays everywhere! Like I had never even shaded. That is why this time I am going overboard on colour graduations before the clear. I hope some of it stays visable.

No pictures but the clear parts are off the sprue and need dipping. The parts a nice, thin and clear, but huge spue attachement points that transitioned across into the clear view areas. I didn't want to dip but the polish is not perfecrt so maybe a dip can sort it.

The touch ups to paint were reasonably successful, canopy was dipped. I went with micro mesh and just polished them.

Gloss coat is on and I was going to start decals but just as I was about to cut into the sheet and dip the first in the water when I saw that the undercarriage legs and prop both need decals.

So I need to get to work on them and once they are painted jump back in to the decals.

Ah well two steps forward and one back.

Thanks Bishop,

On the whole I am pretty happy with how it looked.

I had painted the other parts ready for decalling but I made an impossible error and my gloss back (mr color) spinner has not dried after a whole week!!
I will need to strip it and try again.
I was going for a gloss finnish and I think I layed it on too heavy, it's gloss but maybe too thick and preventing the underlaying paint from drying,
Woops

Tamiya Lacquer thinner and a soft cloth and the offending sticky paint just wiped off.

Ready for round two.
