Was just sitting down to paint the red trim on the undercarriage doors and thought I'd have a look at a few references... Seems that most AC didn't have this red trim. Fine with me, I'll start working out a colour mix for the yellow tail and wing tips instead.
Thanks guys. After the tail, I guess the next step will be all of that metal around the tail end, burners and stabilisers. Slightly nervous about this stage, but glad that there is so much variation between one Phantom and another in this area.
Starting to feel a certain sadness that this build is gradually coming to an end. Weathering and final assembly is going to take a bit of time though. Have added a 1/32 F-4C/D to my wish list. Would look cool having one in SEA camo sitting beside this one on the shelf.
First stage of weathering. I'm trying to impart a dirty but subtle effect using a wash made up with a mix of approx 50/50 AK Interactive Dark Grey Fading and Light Grey Highlight oils. Rather than wiping excess off with moist cotton buds, I'm using dry buds and sort of dabbing/smearing rather than wiping.
