For years I’ve had a soft spot for the DH.106 Comet jetliner but never found a colour scheme that appealed to me enough to buy a model kit of one. Then I saw
sheet for the Lockheed L.188 Electra in the colours of
Tasman Empire Airways Limited
, New Zealand’s international airline the 1930s to 1965. So...
Airfix’s really-needs-retirement DH Comet 4B, the aforementioned OldModels Decals sheet, and two random drop tanks grafted onto the wing leading edges to create a 4C (the fairing-in of which is why this kit purchase from three or more years ago was finished yesterday), and a custom mix of Tamiya acrylics to make the TEAL teal:
It wasn’t until I’d posted this build on a few sites that someone informed me TEAL’s preference was actually for the Comet over the Electra! Word is that at that time people joked TEAL actually stood for “Take Electras And Like it”
Update In Stash:
Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.
