Got this from a toyco clearance sale they had on a bunch of kits, 40% off. Will most likely do it as a WHIF (but likely not for long) RNZAF herc replacement. Was talking to a P3 pilot yesterday and the scuttlebutt he has been hearing is that the airforce will likely go several normal J's and 1 or 2 J30's, keeping in line with the "buy what USAF and RAAF have" line of thinking.
Pen added for an idea of scale, not huge but still reasonable, roughly the same size as a 1/48 Spitfire or BF109?

I've always found BNA slower that expected. Hannants orders usually get here faster.

Yeah me too, BNA has always been over 10 days for some reason, whilst Hannants has always been no longer than ten days for me.
HKong orders are very quick, 5 days with eExpress[sp?] still standard price, only exception is Luckymodel - some of their stuff looks to have come from Germany??

Just ordered myself a second Blackridge airbrush from Supercheap Auto. They're halfprice. $37.50. I honestly prefer this airbrush over my Iwata HP-C Plus. No more needing to switch needles for finer work. I can set this new one up with the 0.2mm needle, the Iwata is 0.3mm and keep my current Blackridge as 0.5mm.

Those Blackridge airbrushes really are unbeatable for the price (especially when they are on special).

Ordered this one a while back and it finally arrived, box was abit squashed but contents are fine. Not much too it but detail looks nice. Of course a couple of days after I ordered this Miniart announce they are doing a 1/32 one!

Comes with a whole range of WHIF schemes and markings, all courtesy of Ammo by Mig.

Interesting, I did not know Amusing were doing that. I saw the Miniart version and was tempted as the 'ball tank' was a fun build.

Amusing were showing CAD images about 8-10 months ago and I think the kit released about 1 1/2 months ago. I think I paid about $55 delivered from evilbay? It's their first aircraft kit, cockpit sidewalls are blank but rest of kit is nice, good details, nice panel lines and if it is like their armour it should go together reasonably well. Plus it's a triebflugel! I've wanted a kit of one ever since I first saw pictures of it years ago.

Jammy bar-steward.
I picked up the Black Ridge only yesterday, the Taupo store. No sale there. Paid full $73.99!

Still, that was $12.00 off the ticket price, and it has three needles.
All I need now is another hose quick-release and we're in business.

The cheap-o one I've had 8 years, with a 0.3mm tip, is losing chrome in the cup. Time ot replace it.
I'm using a ChiCom knock-off ($30.00 . . if memory serves) small-cup with a 0.2mm tip as well.

It has done sterling service for paint mottling.

Regards

BNA - mine have always been slow. 10 days to 2 weeks. ( Dunedin ) Several years ago I switched to paying extra for Tracked / Insured as some of my orders were expensive. . Recently I noticed that I had not had to sign for them for a long time so guessing that they are just being sent standard airmail not Tracked / Insured as I have paid for. Will keep paying for tracking and insurance as if something goes missing it will become their problem not mine. - I hope.

Curious so I just brought one to try. Supercheap. $37.49. These are about $12 US on Aliexpress with free shipping. I brought one 18 months ago. They are available with a dozen different brand names on them and lots with no branding at all. Same airbrush. It was rubbish. I sprayed several lines and it sprayed the line with a one inch wall of spatters above it. I have heard that the ones supplied to companies such as Master and presumably Blackridge, are the ones that pass quality control inspection. The ones that don't pass are the ones that get sold off on sites like Aliexpress. Will be interesting to see what it is like.

The first Chinese airbrush I brought was about 2 years ago. Got it on Aliexpress for about $12 US with free shipping. Put some paint in it and started doing some test sprays on a sheet of paper. Was not long before paint was oozing out of the trigger slot. The bloody thing had no needle seal and the whole body was full of paint. Hell of a mess. A year ago I did buy a couple of shiny red alloy bodied ones on Aliepress for $11 US each. One with MAC valve, one without. They actually spray surprisingly well.

Having been to Hobbyeasy a few times and asked about some Bren Gun kits. The ones I wanted weren’t in stock, and they said they are ordered by them and shipped direct to the customer by the supplier. This isn’t the norm with Hobbyeasy, as they have a pretty big warehouse of stock, but I guess with some of the specialist stuff it is easier to get it shipped by the supplier. Not sure how it works on shipping price, as the prices from Europe are higher than the ones from HKG.

Gentlemen.

Coming to the end of the Spit XVIe.
Next on Kevin's "To-do" list is the SMER 1/48 Tigger Moth. Didn't know there was a Tiggy in 1/48th.

For gits and shiggles I went a-huntin' for a silver pencil, for chipping and details.

Gordon Harris in NZ is one place that carries Prismacolour. Looking forward to using it on the Spit XVIe.

$3.50 and $8.50 postage.
Yeah. Not the cheapest writing implement I've bought.

Regards

Finally got the Tamiya Spitfire MkVIII for a really good price, $160 delivered from HLJ ($130 and $30 shipping). Been wanting one for ages but was never quite prepared to pull the trigger at what they normally go for. it comes with the markings for "Grey Nurse" and I will do that scheme as the current warbird in aussie so with a nice shiny finish and minimal weathering.

Nice score on the Spit. It is a very nice kit. When I get round to doing mine, I'll probably do it in the Grey Burse scheme as well.

Nice! I'm going to be starting my Mk.XVI shortly. Just getting some references together for wiring the engine... I'm also contemplating building up the Mossie's engines at the same time. Kill 3 birds with one stone

The other day I received a parting gift...but I could only use the money ( € 100) for models...

so today I went to my local hobby shop (Bob Hes in Heemskerk) and picked up this gem....

I've been after this for some time to add to my Pacific airstrip diorama after I realised the originally planned RNZN Fairmile would be too long.
