'Tanks' GB was created by johnsnz
Hi,

As I've been sticking my Tamiya T-62 together. I thought would there be any scope for a 'Tanks' GB???

Tanks of course means any AFV but with a limitation to Armour produced by lesser nations.

So nothing produced by the big 4 Germany the USA, Britain or the USSR/ Russia.

You could build something made by the French say a Char 1b but not a Sherman in French service as that was made in the US...

I think to keep a level playing field if a lesser nation built a version of a design for example a Chinese type 59 this wouldn't be allowed as it's a derivative of the T54/55.

The aim is to build stuff that differs from Tigers ,Sherman's and T-34's Of course it would be open to any scale or kit in any media and totally open in terms of era and it could lead be any type of AFV from a tank to a SPG or Armourd car or IFV.

Is there any interest?

I could be a starter. Only have 1 eligible kit based on those criteria and no plans to buy any more armour, but it would be a start...

I think it's a great idea, but you'll need to be just a wee bit more precise with your definition - will you include Tanks, wheeled recce types and APC's or just tanks alone ? - I'm happy to get behind this, have nothing in the stash but eBay is open 24hrs a day, right ??

Ian.

Hi,

Any type of AFV... Wheeled or tracked regular gun tanks or SPG's or IFV's/ APC's

I think I'll draw the line at soft skin types with some form of armament bolted on.

Given the flexibility on scale and Era that's a lot of choice. A quick peruse at TM throws up a myriad of potential subjects.

So as an example of what's not ok..

Israeli M51 'Super Sherman' is a no as the base vehicle is of US Origin.

Israeli Merkava is Ok as the base vehicle is of domestic Israeli design and production.

Powders Aussie Matilda Hedgehogvis a no as the base vehicle is of British design.

Powders 38T gun tank is ok as it's of Czech origin.

A Germans designed 38T variant isn't ok as the variant is of German design and origin.

Plus there is more to life than Hetzer's

Ok

John

I'll be sitting back watching. I don't have anything that would suit in the stash, and I wont be buying anything :)

But will be happy watching what comes together

As keen as I was, I'm out. Checked the only kit I had eligible for this and it is already about 60% assembled (Dragon 1/72 Chi-Ha), so don't have anything to play with and am not after any more armour at present.

I would be keen, as long as there's enough time to finish my other builds, I'd be keen for it to start any time it's just the end date. As you know I like having lots of things on the go so any time you want to start is fine by me. :)

How about we call it a social GB and kick it off now as it's the start of March and let it run until the end of July that gives 5 months... which should be enough time for most Mortals.

Thoughts

Hey John would I be able to use my T-34 as my entry? Or is it too far along? Otherwise I may struggle to meet the 5mth end...with other projects and all...

Yes make a start and let's look to finish in July...

I'm not sure what the protocol is for getting a GB thread set up. So perhaps one of admins or mods can help with that...

Type up a draft blurb (similar to the header of other GBs). Noting rules, start and end dates etc

Select a suitable image also (unsure on max image size for this)

Fire it in a PM to G1, who will be able to set up the relevant thread tree

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

A 'Tiran 5' is a T54/55 retrofitted with a 105 L7 isn't it??? If so it's Soviet in origin and thus not eligible.. The Cheiftan is British so also not a goer.....

Don't count on my joining-in John, got a double-build for a GB over at Modellers Alliance on the bench just now and a whole slue of other projects that I want to get finished or more accurately re-started, after I'm done with them. If I can I will, but no guarantees.
