I'm still keen and will produce a couple for the GB. They might even look ok.....

Personally I think the idea is a good one its not overly complex. The down side is if your preffered subject is already gone... I guess people will get in behind it or not...

Maybe when the idea, and rules are cemented, another thread is opened up to organise who builds what. Personally, I'm very easy. I have only built one P-51 RNZAF bird, and that's about it. So to me, I will take whatever really. If I had more RNZAF builds done, maybe I would be a bit more picky lol.

I'll keep an eye on this one, and will work out what I'm building once it comes to it.

Thanks for clearing that up! B)

I will, in that case, withdraw my name from the GB as I wouldn't be adding anything interesting with either another Skyhawk or Herc build (beyond the sheer size of the Herc, if you haven't seen it in 1/48 it's pretty ridiculous) and on second thoughts, my 1/32nd Avenger I've made too much of a start to the kit piecing together sub-assemblies to be a fair GB entry.

Will be watching the GB with interest though

I'm also keen to do a Typhoon like this one:

My first choice is still the Oxford - according to Wikipedia the RNZAF had 299 of them - did one fall off the boat on the way out here? :P

probably in a crate in a farmers shed ! could have been a crash??? , apparently they handled really well and were excellent trainers for complex multi's, but with all "light" twins, they will bite you.

The light twin, dead zone,... take off power just enough airspeed for positive climb , gear travelling,... then you loose an engine,... it won't climb away... whats in the windshield is where you are landing!

I withdraw my interest at this stage too.

I have a couple of likely choices, but I'll be choosing the subject closer to the start date (based on my keenness for the subject at the time). By then they may be selected by someone else and I can't see me finishing a kit I start to build that I'm not that motivated about and have selected as a second choice.

If there's a subject still available that I'm keen on closer to the start date I'll join at that point.

I'd have a go at any of those too. I find that my interest in a subject usually increases during a build. If building the A-4 gets anyone else interested I'm happy to build something else.

I wouldn't mind building my 1/32 Kitty Hawk T-6 Texan as a Harvard trainer if it hasn't already been 'baggeds'

I guess Steve (ViperBuilder) nailed it on the head and we're not going to please everyone, so in the interests of trying to get as many members as possible on board, rather than trying to get a diversity of finished subjects, any aircraft on the link I published above can be built by any member, and if two people build the same thing, then "tough titties" - I'll live :) .

I will offer two prizes: one for public vote of any finished models on April 1 2017 and one for judged best entry in a special RNZAF 80th Anniversary class at Armistice 2017 for completed models on the table (not yet decided if this will be for GB entries only, or any RNZAF entry - TBA, but feedback welcomed). Prizes TBA.

On The Bench
Hasegawa 1/48 OA-4M Skyhawk conversion
Hasegawa 1/48 A-4M Skyhawk

Sweet, hopefully that will please most. Perhaps if doing the same model, hopefully a different type/camo/serial? Personally, I'm going to wait until everyone has chosen, then go for something. I do like the idea of diversity, and have stated above I don't care what type at this stage :P

Look forward to this one when it goes ahead. In the mean time... many other GB's to be a part of haha

Count me in, I love a good RNZAF aircraft build.

From the current stash I can do the following, all in 1/32:

Zero
Bristol Fighter
DH.9
TBF-1C

Also, should the HK Models Lancaster be released by then, I'll be doing that one (hopefully) as "The Captain's Fancy'.

Cheers

If you're thinking of doing the captured Zero (that's now in the Auckland Museum) I can recommend the 10 page booklet 'Zero - A biography of Mitsubishi A6M3 NZ6000' - that's if you don't already have it :)

It also has 'Auckland War Memorial Museum' on the front cover so it might be available through them.
I got my copy from the 'Aviation Historical Society of NZ'. ahsnz.tripod.com/publications.html - but it took a few months to get a reply from them.
I'm happy to scan it for you if you like - send me a PM with your email address.

The Fujimi 48th.
B)
Picked it up while in the Air farce, 80s (?).
Built and painted, then skills improved and I started strippnig off what I could.
Have an urge to scratch-build more exterior/engine. When the bench is clear, again.

Haven't seen one online since forever.

so do we have a list of who is building what? i really like the idea of every body nominating a plane, they can be the same type if you build different air-frames/schemes like for the A4 you could have up to 5 different RNZAF schemes that's 5 potential A4 builds??? so two people can;t do the Euro 1 A4

I'm down for the Andover in SEA camo. that leaves the White a gray scheme...

I think this could work if two people want to do the same plane,...think about how many mustangs you could do!!!

What do you think Craig?

I'm tentatively interested in participating in this GB, time permitting that is. I'd possibly do a C-60 Lodestar. Given my glacial build pace, I may as well pre enter the same model in the Shelf of Doom group build! :P

Yes, the 1/72 Special Hobby kit. Tania (F1Xena) picked up two on sale while up in Japan, and I scored the spare. So there's always a chance there might be a Ventura outbreak! ;)

There's silver and then there's silver. As I found out when I was building mine, there are subtle "you only really notice if you know it's there" variations in the finish of RNZAF Mustangs. Initially they were all in the factory finish of bare metal fuselage and tail, and bare metal and puttied and aluminium painted wings. Later on a few of them acquired an all over painted aluminium finish. As pointed out though the real variations are in the TAF markings and between individual airframes :)

Hi Ross Mack its the S&M resin kit, i just manage to destroy vacforms!

its still can be had for $200 from John at oldmodels

www.oldmodelsdecals.com/NZ-Kits---Kit---Decal-Combos.html

Its a very good kit, will need filler but the resin looks tidy.

callum did a really good build here

he had a lot of issues....mostly due to the sun melting the kit, but came out with an outstanding build

Now that's a revelation.
:cheer:

Big hand to John for his provision. Yeppers, saw Callum's masterpiece.
The resin's a fair chun of change, but opens the doors to more than one scheme.
I like the Euro 1 and white/grey. Would be awesome to have two on the shelf.
