Interested to know how much interest this may / would generate?

starting April 2016 for say 6 months

covering all scales of land, sea and air

Thoughts?

I'm interested. I very much wanted to build a Argentine Scooter for the Skyhawk GB but never got to it.
Now I've got a massive 1/48 Falklands War decal set for all sorts of aircraft on both sides.
The way things are for me at present I'd like GBs to last as long as possible. 9 - 12 months rather than 6.
I reckon its just a matter of gentle (moderator) reminders occasionally if there's no activity for a while on the GB.
I agree with your parameters. Keep it very open.
How about if it ends in 2017 when, I imagine, their will be some 35th Anniversary activity ...?

I like the idea and the parameters . Maybe look at starting towards the end of the f14 build / desert storm build? I think we need a site calendar so we can see when things are running?

I'd be keen. Sounds like a good excuse to build the 1/72 Arfix Vulcan. B)

We have one or am I the only one that can see the KM Events Calendar on the top menu? :P
Just submit an event and select Group Build as the Category, we have a lot of different tools here, including Calendars, articles etc but most people only use the Forums, it's one of the reasons I stopped the KM Auctions as it wasn't worth forking out the $$ to upgrade it (yeah I know I sound like a broken record :P )

I've got a few kits in the stash that would do for this, a couple of SHARs (including the monstrous 1/24 scale one) and a Harrier GR.3, a Super Etendard, a 120mm scale British soldier somewhere too, that is partly started but would benefit from a complete strip back to resin and rebuild and paint as it was a first attempt at large scale figures with acrylics rather than with enamels.

Yeah I can see the calendar. I was thinking of a visual calendar where we could see how things overlay. Happy to mock one up if you can put a static element on a page
Can make it small too

Thanks for the offer Kane, but there's no need mate, the Calendar tool has the feature already. If you look on the events menu now you'll see Group Builds, as more are added it should change. So for those who are GB admins if you could submit the event it should be added to the calendar automatically. Add a link to the main GB forum in the description as I've done on the SW one and we're good to go. ;)

I'll see how I go on this one. Kind of tempted, but armour options are limited.

Will see closer to the start date B)

would there be any scope to extend this to a year long build (if it goes ahead) as Wally said in order to coincide with the 35th anniversary

I have a couple of ships that I could dust off and build ;)

OOOOH YEAH

I have a diorama idea,... and the models to do it! my idea is a victor in-flight refuelling XH607 on the way back from the first Black Buck raid!

This GB would be perfect. however apparently the Airfix Vulcan and Matchbox Victors are pigs, dry fit on both kind of confirms this.

Sounds like an awesome idea. Great Wall Hobby do both the Victor and the Vulcan in 1/144. I have the Victor and it is a lovely kit; it's also the tanker version. I think that the Vulcan comes in both tanker and bomber versions. I got mine from Lucky Model.

They are quite sizeable in 1:72 as well,... I normally do not do Braille scale but these are big enough for my sausage fingers.

I'm thinking a drogue and line extending with both kits suspended on magical perspex poles. I've had two goes at building drogues from scratch and I'm getting better!!.. wire and tissue!!!

I'm sure google will be your friend...

But off the top of my head

Chinook (Bravo November)
Wessex HU5 (ie italeri's fairly new kit)
Wessex HAS3 (Italeri's new kit has markings for Humphrey of Fortuna Glacier rescue fame)
Lynx
Wasp
Scout
Gazelle
Sea King, both junglie and ASW variants. (HC4. HAS2, HAS5)

The other side used various Bell 212, UH1H, A109 and also Chinooks, Alouette, lynx.

I've been thinking of doing a little Falklands diorama - nothing too exciting - just using up an old Airfix Scorpion and some paratroopers that have been in my stash for way too long. Being a bit too young to remember Vietnam, the Falklands was the first war I can remember seeing on TV so it's always been of interest to me.

Anyway, I stumbled across this thread which dates from a time before I joined up here - and I see the GB was proposed to start this month :) - I guess that's not going to happen with the current number of GBs on the go - but I thought I'd belatedly register my interest in case it kicks off later in the year... or some other year.

Good idea for a GB...
Next Year will be the 35th Anniversary.

We could run the GB from the 2nd of April till the 14th of June which spans the dates of the Argentine Invasion to capitulation. That gives folk 74 days to build something. Which doesn't sound like long as KM GB's go but does make for a focused GB...

Thoughts....

Added a poll to the topic to gauge interest B)

Think there were/are 10 interested, so that meets the minimum entrants requirement

April to June 2017.... That gives folk 12 months to think about / source a kit and then 74 days to build it....

Is that practical??

Cheers

74 days is fine for what I was planning. I'll probably only spend a month on it regardless of how long the GB last for.
But if it needs to be longer to get more people on board then that's fine with me.

I notice other GB threads mention a minimum of 10 participants (or expressions of interest). Is that a Forum rule or is it up to each GB initiator to set that number?
I guess if it's a Forum rule, and we don't have the numbers, then there's still nothing stopping a few of us from commemorating the conflict with an unofficial mini-GB - just don't tell Gary :P

Edit: Just thinking about it a bit more - I guess the 10 'expressions of interest' rule is so that even if only half make it to the end you still have something to judge?
But... if you had only 4 or 5 'expressions of Interest' - but they were really committed to the GB - then the end result is still the same. Am I making any sense? :)

Just checked on scalemates.com - my Airfix kit is the 1982 issue - the same year as the conflict. :)
I'm building it next year regardless of what you guys are doing :P

There's nothing stopping you doing any number of Group Builds but to make it worth my while setting up the forums etc I want a minimum of 10 starters.
What I'm seeing and it's starting to bug me a bit is a big show of hands to get it over the line then only 3 or 4 actual builds, and it's the same culprits going "Yeah good idea count me in woohoo etc:" and then silence, nada nothing even started let alone finished.
I realise people have lives etc but so do the people that put up these builds and administer them, it's just polite to at least try to put your money where ya mouth is, so to speak ;)
I think we should also be putting No and Maybe (at least a No) in the poll just so that others can see who has said yes.

So possibly no GB - but just a Falklands thread - like the guys doing the 3x Cobras or 2x B-29s.

Sorry I should say nothing stopping you doing any number of minor/one off GB's but the one's with prizes and separate forums that use the calendars etc will need 10 Signatures (and preferably starters/finishers).
