Les Munro DSO QSO DFC 1919-2015 was created by Flying_Kiwi
As you probably know Les Munro last of the Dambuster pilots died this morning,

www.stuff.co.nz/national/70818274/les-mu...af-617-squadron-dies a sad day

I think its time to start my NZ Bomber series with this???

Maybe a group build in honour of the 617 boys?

Les and King George !

I was talking to my wife the other day about giving away the Lanc I had already built, and going for another one... she was all good for it as well, knowing how much my skills have improved.

I would love to have a group build with the lancs, but I wont be able to start until next year...

With the passing of Len it is unfortunately the end of an era... very sad day.
I say an informal year long casual GB in honour of Les and the rest of 617 sqn s in order. That way people can come and go as they please and work on them when it fits in around their other builds without having the pressure of a fast approaching deadline...

Edit: Here's a list of aircraft operated by 617 sqn over the years...

Aircraft and dates[27][28][29]

March 1943 June 1945 Avro Lancaster I, III
June 1945 September 1946 Avro Lancaster VII (FE)
September 1946 January 1952 Avro Lincoln B.2
January 1952 April 1955 English Electric Canberra B.2
February 1955 December 1955 English Electric Canberra B.6
May 1958 July 1961 Avro Vulcan B.1, B.1A
September 1961 December 1981 Avro Vulcan B.2, B.2A
January 1983 January 2014 Panavia Tornado GR.1, GR.1B, GR.4

We could also expand it to include USN VFA-195, also known as the Dambusters... but I'll leave that up to a vote...

In Soviet Russia, Iron Curtain GB builds you!

People look at me funny when I say I own "Fifty shades of Grey". FS36118, FS36270, FS36375.....

I think thats a good idea!

So parameters just Lancs , 617 Sqdn aircraft or any RNZAF Lancs???

G1 is there anything special we need to do for a group build?? i can sponsor a prize if the draw is in the distant future,... i should be solvent by then

I'd be in if it was 617 Squadron aircraft. I have a 1/32 Tornado I'd like to build. Or a Vulcan. :cheer:

I would be on board with that, and I like the idea of a casual build. Maybe instead of prizes, those who are able to make a donation to the local RSA?

I heard on the news last night as well. RIP Les. :(
A group build in honour of 617 sqn past and present sounds like a great idea as allows for a wider selection of subjects.
A donation of some dollars and the wining entrant/entrants? is also a really nice touch as well. Perhaps the best of each decade... eg 40's, 50's...etc?
I probably wont participate in the build... for now, but would be happy to make a donation for the cause.

I think donating the Model and maybe a bit of cash to the RSA is a bloody good idea, maybe we could all chip in for a base or something. (good on you Kane always thinking with yer head thing)

I have quite a few of my old Models down at Omaka Aero club (if you are ever there don't look too close they were old ones and brush painted) clubs and associations love to have decent models

I'd donate mine, maybe we should ask first?

Right i'm going to call them today.

I just messaged my local RSA to see if they would be interested in a kit, and what they would like if they do. Would be very cool to have something like that displayed. I'm sure they would like it

Whoo!
