Next Pay to Play Group build was created by Gary
I know there's still 8 weeks to run on the current North Africa Group build but now would be a good time to start thinking about the next one as it gives people chance to get their builds planned and ordered. As per the current build it will be a $5 entry fee with all funds going to the winner or designated charity etc.
So lets have your ideas for the subject of the next group build, I've already mentioned a Pacific based theme which would tie in with a local event here in New Zealand but it's up to you lot what you want.
If I can have your ideas in no later than 10/05/2013 this gives you just over a week to think of something. I'll then put a poll up based on the responses so we can get the ball rolling. ready to start the next build on the 8th July

I'm sure I can wrangle something together for a pacific GB. Or pehaps we could do it as a Pacific theatre of operations, that way it could also cover more modern things as well, such as from the us pacific fleet. Either that or a ETO GB covering all timeframes. I'm just spitballing here cause I'm sure I'll end up participating in whatever it ends up being...

Yeah sorry meant to be more specific thought I'd mentioned it in this post but it was in the other one. I was thinking of it being Pacific theatre of Ops this includes Indo China, modern etc. The planned modelling events at Cambridge (more info another day) will be more WWII but will still include Indo China, Far East etc.

I'm keen on the Pacific, especially indo-china or asia-pacific area...
...i am more of a post war modeller.

Other ideas could be:
- Peace Keeping operations world wide (Middle east, Balkans, SEA, Africa...)
- Korean War (a bit of a carry over from Peace Keeping...)
- Iraq/Afghanistan conflict
- War in Europe (WWII, Cold-war...)

What ever it is I will try and jump in and give it ago. :)

I am keen on the Pacific idea, as I have a kit that will go perfectly for that theme. Otherwise if you want to make it a challenge, could do a helicopter group build. I have noticed not many build heli's?

But yea what ever happens I am keen to join the next GB.

As others have said, keen to join in whatever it is, but would prefer something that covers more modern era as well, as my WWII modelling interests are very limited.

The Pacific theatre could cover modern as well, isn't it the 5th Fleet's area of Operations, not to mention all the lovely stuff from the 60's onwards.

:) 3rd MAW would give plenty of West Coast USMC squadrons to chose from - Harriers, Hornets and Osprey.

In fact, with that theme, I already know what I would build. Two thumbs up from me.

Pacific Theatre of Operations WW2 & Modern suits me down to the ground. Could even include pre-WW2?
PTO anytime.

Hey, now here's an idea

Why not simply "The Pacific - Open". This opens it up to a great variety of other genre, not just military.
Anything that can be directly corelated to having happened within what is generally noted as "The Pacific Rim". Eastern Russia/China down through the Far East - Indonesia to Australia and NZ and from Alaska/USA down through South America and everything in betwixt. Boats, planes, cars, bikes, trucks, rail, figures, dioramas and maybe even Sci-Fi if it can be justified.
Give everyone a go, should they be inclined. Not just the Military modellers.

Totally agree. Simply "Pacific" could include Waka, Cook's Endeavour or The Beagle heading for the Galapagos Islands with Charles Darwin aboard. Kon Tiki. Amelia Earheart ... The possibilities are endless and hence the inclusiveness.

Too generic to manage in my opinion, plus I'm trying to assist in the local even here in the Waikato with potential display/competition items. You might as well say Southern Hemisphere free for all, just my opinion, it's all down to the voting in the end, I'll add it to the options.

If the Waikato event is essentially military I'd go back to the Pacific Theatre category for the competition/display.

All sounds good to me, but its a good idea to define it a bit more as Gary said.

Possibly defining the area on a map?

I like what Craig was talking about for a Pacific theme. Could this include military training establishments and or rescue units from Pacific ring nations? Got an idea up my sleeve. I'd pay to go into this one Gaz!!!

I'll "donate" an entry fee or two just for the entertainment value. I've really enjoyed watching the builds for the current Group Build and it's looking as though we may have more punters for the next one :-) Could be a big kitty
I'm not worried what the topic is - although I feel it needs to be reasonably tight in time frame and/or geography or subject.

-South Pacific WW2
-South Pacific 1946 > 1966
-South Pacific 1967 > 1986
-South Pacific 1987 > current
-Falklands conflict
-Middle East - recent
- etc.

or perhaps, as previously suggested, something not necessarily military, such as -

- motorcycle
- car
- truck
- helicopter
- civilian aircraft
- etc.

or, a certain subject- everyone build one of the same subject, any scale, any era

- The Great KiwiModeller P-51 Group Build ;-) - if I was G1, I'd make everyone build me a Mustang - guess we're lucky to have such a democratic leader
- P-47 Thunderbolt
- Skyhawk
- Bf 109
- Iroquois
- Mustang ;-)
- Phantom
- etc

I'll only have the first three weeks of July to work on an entry, and then work goes from busy to uberhectic, but I'll give it a crack.

The current model of group build goes like this Hadley;

Everyone pays a $5 entry fee. The build runs for six months from a given start date to a fixed finish date (Sometimes) . It is a competition to build the best model or models, however you choose to present that, which fits into the chosen topic. eg. "North Africa and the Desert Wars" which is due to finish soon.
It seems that the next GB will most probably come under a concept themed around "Pacific Theatre of Operations" or something quite like that. So any model you enter must have been utilised some how/when/where within that overall theme. All entries are voted on by current members of KM at the end of the build period and the winner takes all the cash from the entry fees. And some Credit amoungst their peers (bragging rights). And maybe even an itsy bitsy trophy, but that's only a maybe. And really gets to stretch their modelling and research skills along the way

Hope that helps Hadley

I missed a part of the orignal rule out. Old Age myself. You need to have been a member of KM for a minimum of three months and have made at least 20 posts here. That last isn't too difficult; simply post some comments on various peoples builds and before you know it you're well on the way.
I look forward to seeing you in the next Group Build.

Cheers

Things haven't done so well here, I'm not selling anything these days and no one is donating so there's just no money for trophies I'm afraid, even the running costs are coming out of my pocket, so sorry no trophies mate. I will be giving away a virtual trophy, something that you can put in your signature or have as your avatar.
I would like to have a real trophy, one that is returned each year or something and then given out with the new winners name on it.
Yeah the minimum posts and services length is to deter "professional" builders who enter just to win the prize.
