I have a cunning plan was created by Gary
It's more cunning than a fox that's been to the school of cunning........

Anyway, how does this grab people.

  • A group build, entry fee is $5 NZ
Winner is picked by the members voting (it's pretty safe and you can only vote once)
The winner takes all in the form of a voucher from a well known NZ (or other country) online retailer (I can organise vouchers for Sprue and BNA among others).
The topic will cover Air, Land or Sea but will WWII (I get to choose cos we'd be sat here next year trying to decide).
KM has a bank account so entry fees can be paid directly in to this or via PayPal (you pay the fees).
The build will run for 6 months, and as I said you the viewers get to choose so it won't be necessarily be about the biggest most expensive kit but what people like.
The entrants will be limited to members that have been here for 3 months or more and have made a minimum of 20 posts (this should eliminate outsiders and pros), plus I get to vet the entrants.
Weekly progress shots from all build and must include the following image in each of the photos
  • .

I'll be looking to start this at the end of November.
    So who's up for this.

'Yea, Though I Fly Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I Shall Fear No Evil. For I am at 50,000 Feet and Climbing.'

Believe me, I have no space to start yet anyway. In fact this probably won't hit the bench here until after Dec 31. And I still need to source some correct "Lady In The Dark" decals to replace the wrong ones in the kit. :wail:

I'm in. I got plenty of kits from WW2 unstarted so I'm sure I can find something to do. My problem will be getting something finished inside 6 months. Only problem I can see is the weekly update, quite often I don't get time to do any modelling for a couple of weeks or more... Not sure how everyone else feels about that but if there's no other support I'll see what I can do....

If you have no updates then you can't do an update, simple really G2. I just don't want people to go from here's the box of what I'm going to build to next post of "as you can see all I got left to do is the weathering" ;)
I'll also be changing the logo on an infrequent basis to keep you slackers on your toes. With a $5 entry fee it is possible that there could be a nice pot at the end of it.
Oh and I'm not just limiting this to NZ, our friends across the ditch are welcome and so are our other members from around the globe.
I think between us we can police the competition successfully.

Well there is that... I get what you mean about the not going from "here's the sprues" to "here's the finished product" with no pics inbetween... It was too early this morning and brain hadn't engaged properly (even though it's not normally engaged properly anyway...). I reckon this is a really good idea. I presume at the end of the build we'll have a poll with everyone's completed entries and go from there?
Also if there is a request for extra GB hosts (other than yourself obviously) i'll put my hand up if noone else does....

Another idea (if we get enough participants) could be to have an armour prize and an aircraft prize. Like I say, probably only feasable if we get enough people to "buy in", otherwise one overall will work. I bet a tank will win it since there are more treadheads than zoomies on here most of the time...

I don't think we should really be making that assumption at this point mate, I wouldn't want to put people off because it's assumed they won't win by entering a plane.
Nah I think just one stream of prizes will do, I will however be getting some trophies made similar to the ones we have at Cambridge for 2nd and 3rd places. I think something like a trophy adds another dimension to the competition. You can't beat having something tangible to show off.

I know, I'm not saying a plane wouldn't win over a bunch of tanks.... Just based on the number of builds we see on here I'm picking there's gonna be a lot of armour entered. I guess we'll just have to build more planes then. Like you say though, at the end of the day it's the people's decision, and I know a lot of the treadheads can appreciate a good wingthing when they see it.
Fair call on the one prize, but trophies is a good idea. Perhaps even a special sig image for the best 3 to display under their messages??? A gold coloured one for first, silver for second and bronze/copper for third? Just as a thought.

Thanks John, the $5 is an entry fee and the total will be the prize, no fees or money will fill my coffers. :(
I'll publish the bank details at the end of October and give everyone until the end of November to get you entry fees and details in.
At the moment the topic will be North Africa and the Med during WWII so there's plenty of scope for all, this may change between now and the end of the month (got to keep you on your toes)

I'll either have to buy something to build for this build or see if i've got something that might have served there. Either way, I should be able to sort something.

There were a lot of cars used during WWII...... I have at least two 1/35 Citroen's and a few other civilian vehicles in my stash. There's also Rommel's Rod which is a re-release of the old Aurora kit which is basically a 6 wheeled staff car. There a plenty of things you could do, there's tankers and bowsers, fire equipment, I could go on ;)

G2 I've not finalised the theme for the build, I'm open to suggestions but come the end of the month my decision will be final :)

Well from the time that I announce what it's going to be you'll have a month to get your kit on so to speak.
I will be allowing late starters up to around a month (maybe 2) after the start date but the same conditions will apply.
