Just come from a famous local wellington Model Craft and Hobbies store.
Had a great chat with the guys, exchanged useful tips (on spraying white), the model I wanted (at short notice) was in stock and only postage prices away from Trade Me or Mighty Ape (sorry dave). and a nice walk and air conditioned haven on a hot day.
But.... yet again paint stock, tape stock and this time blades, which I really needed, no stock.
I wonder about the reason for this, it seems they never have the basics, and if they did would sell like hot cakes,... I'd rather spend a bit of shoe leather than wait 2-3 days for tape.
missing a trick I think, have always supported these guys in plastic and accessories purchases but lately I find myself wondering what I will find in stock when I get there...
In theory only two possible reasons for low stock levels on basic items.
Bad or poor stock management OR short of funds to replace sold stock.
I feel for the model shops. - the few that are left. I think this is one area of the market the has been hit really hard by online shopping. Especialy today with so many new products available online that you just cant get here and the bargains you can find.
I used to regularly walk to MC&H to get basics during lunch break. Last time I went there I wanted three paint colours. They had no basic red in stock. I was pissed off but then went to Toyworld - no red, the next day Not Just Toys in Upper Hutt - No red. What was going on - the fire service doing a major repaint program?
I have the same with the shop i buy my most products from ..... all of the acrylic Matt black from Vallejo,MIg,AK,and life color is sold out for over 3 weeks now .
Plenty of enamel Matt black (but i don't use that )
Well I must apologise in advance for MA's stock being low the next few weeks, as we're reducing stock so we don't have to move it up the road to the big new warehouse. But once we're shifted we'll be back to fully stocked asap.
