Did a few tests of the new AK Real Colors acrylic lacquers. Thought I should share.

Tested 4 paints on 3 surfaces.
Paints tested, all at 50/50 paint to Tmiya X-20A thinner:
RC074 Dark Brown
RC046 Ivory interior
RC024 Olive Drab Faded
RC057 Dunkelgrau

Surfaces:
Bare plastic (top)
Tamiya fine surface primer (left)
Army Painter black primer (right)

Comments:
Coverage on the whole very good indeed. paint settles and dries quickly to a dead matt smooth finish. Resisted masking tape used after 30 minutes drying.
Result was probably best on the bare plastic (you could easily paint these directly onto the plastic), and definitely worst on the Tamiya primer (could be better if the primer was left a day as I would usually do, I should test that later). I also need to test these on acrylic primers which I often use.

Note:
The brush marks on the dunkelgrau on the tamiya primer are the result of me painting over the bad coverage I got first spray out. Best ignored but the coverage was not so great with that colour on that primer.

Just to finish up, this is a pic under a varnish, adjusted to make the colours look, at least on my screen, much as they do. All 50/50 thinner, one coat.

Paints are very densely pigmented and easily settle to a very smooth matte finish. Highly recommended by me at least.

As great as people say paints are, real world tests like this with photos prove the facts. And for that I thank you sir!

This is super helpful. I’ll be ordering some of that ivory for the Tigers very shortly.

I don't think it be a good idea to use these paints on primers like vallejos because since it's a lacquer based it will eat/ melt the primer

Thanks Henry

This is an acrylic Lacquer, the same as Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. Should be perfectly safe on acrylic primers. I will do some tests.

Good work Shaun B)

Do you have any Mr Levelling Thinner to try thinning the AKI paints with?

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Test of RC040 Light Stone over AK interactive acrylic primer.

Took very well, no float or interaction. Seems to be settling down nicely.
