Something I do when as an armour modeller we very occassionally have a repeatative job to do (AM tracks) I'll put on a youtube link. Along with another topic that really interests me in a totally different field, I'll put on variuos modellers presentations. Along with MIG and WILDER here is another modeller with a different approach;

Hope its interesting.

Very enjoyable clip. I don't mind the lengths to which these guys go, in explanation.

The French adage goes, 'The more things change, the more they stay the same".
I'm not armour, although a nice chap sent me a 1/35 Trump KV-1.

As a one-off I've started on the theme of 'derelict of war'' . Sorted through dozens of vids and blogs, covering really involved and time-consuming processes.
The results are awesome, whatever the method.
What I've come to understand is that I can shortcut quite a bit now. F'rinstance, how to layer stains and fading as I go, to build up that all-important realism of time-induced wear.

All those days of using oils, washes and pastel on a/c have been "armour school'' .

Regards

I've never heard of Michael Rinaldi before (being mostly a car modeller for the past couple of decades is like hiding under a rock in regards to armour modelling) but he harks back to the days of modelling yore where oils were more commonly used for post weathering effects. There's also a lot of truth in what he says about simplifying one's approach to the hobby. A really useful video, so thanks again for posting it OD.

Good one. Yes I have an oils project to start soon, Dragon T34 1940 version, just modulated it and varnished, good practice for a Pershing.
Another clip up tomorrow.

Here is another in the series. Rinaldi joins the discussion at 9.50 minutes but the first part does talk about the transition modellers go through with the new materials and techniques which is something all modellers experience.
