Visiting Wellington was created by Fooesboy
Hi guys,
I'll be in Wellington tomorrow for 2 nights, we are flying down to see the Teracotta warriors at Te Papa.
Would like to visit a modelshop while there... any suggestions?

Bit late notice, but I was also wondering if anyone fancied a meet-up for a beer either Tuesday or Wednesday evening?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

What used to be the best store in Wellington, Modelcrafts and Hobbies isn't what it used to be. I haven't set foot in it for a while. Last time I was there, the shelves were pretty bear, and they lacked basic requirements like Tamiya Extra Fine. I have heard it isn't much better these days.

The only other place that stocks kits and supplies are Toy World on Balance Street, which is down towards the Beehive. They normally have specials on kits and supplies.

Other than that... All other stores are closed down.

I would be keen for a meetup, but I am housebound at the moment after having Back Surgery.

Also Macks Tracks in Plimmerton Railway station. You can catch a train there on Kapiti line. Primarily a model railway store but has good stocks of general modelling supplies - paint, glues, plastic card/strip etc.

Also some nice cafes for coffee or a snack and walk along the beach.

OT, but I tried to give my money to 2 LHS’s here in Auckland today. Stoker Models closed at 3:00 (I was there at 3:30), and Modelair closed at 4:00 (I was there at 3:45 but they were already closed)... Neither had holiday hours posted on their websites, but both had their hours on the door (like that’s of any use to me by then)... An hour of pointless driving around for nothing..... And they wonder why we shop online.....

Sad. Unfortunately a reflection of many local suppliers. I recently emailed a local distributor numerous times over a two month period. I never once got a reply so I purchased overseas although am happy to say i subsequently found another local supplier of the items I was after who filled my order for a few more items in just a few days.

Lots of unused potential.
I managed to find a couple of things to purchase, I always try and buy something from every model shop I visit just help support the "bricks & morter". It will be a sad day when we can no longer pop in and pick up some basic supplies.

normally they lack the normal supplies which is why sadly my go to is the mighty monkey .

I pop in there for the odd bit of paint, and if they have tape or blades i snap them up before they go, they haven't had a shipment of Alclad in forever so i go to Acorn for that.

Their hours seem to be a little random too....

Thanks to whoever it is that uses the link to Mighty Ape, I've had a couple of nice referrals from people's recent purchases.
The link is on menu or here www.mightyape.co.nz/?r=1542392 every bit helps keep this site going ;)
