I think I have issues lol was created by Gary
I'm in the process of emptying my garage for a conversion in to my new man cave (details to follow). Part of the process is to dispose of the old cabinets that housed my armour kits. It's quite astonishing how many kits the cupboards can hold.
It's a bit scary really lol

Is this too many?

No my son flooded the shower and it overflowed in to the garage, so the insurance said I have to replace the garage. While I was at it I've decided to remove the garage rollup door with a nice big window and pull off all the walls put new Gib board in, put a nice floor down and have custom made set of fitted display cases and workspaces CNC cut. It's a once in a lifetime deal and all it cost me was a new bathroom (other than the actual hard cash it'll cost for the refit).
My current model space isn't big enough for all my projects so that's why I'm going to be moving out.
The work has started and I'm playing catch up with the drawings, I might post them but don't want to make people too jealous even I'm not that mean. But I will say it's going to be a pretty big space, 8.4m x 3.5m just for making models.

Its not much to go on so far, I"m still trying to dream it all up. The main bench is 3.5m long, I'll have under cupboards and side cupboards etc.
The rack down the other end is 3.4m long by 2.4m high x 600mm deep, that's going to be my model stash, I'll put a big floor to ceiling unit for my books and magazines, and on the other side Ï'm hoping to put 4m of display cases. All the lighting will be LED downlighters I"m shipping in from Ali Express
Garage is 8.4m long by 3.5m wide

Yeah I think that will go to the left of the main bench and vent in to the big void under the house that you can only get access to by going through that weird little hole half way up the wall on the drawing lol.
Does anyone have any links, preferences experience with small/medium (but not auto sized) non mobile spray booths? I.e. where to get them etc.

Another 'must have' is surely a sink, maybe one of the laundry supertub standalone things or something? Nothing more annoying than having to leave the room for water or to wash something!

There's a basin just outside both doors, a big double one on one side and a small broken on the other side but yeah it wouldn't be too hard as the pipes go through the ceiling, waste would be the only issue.

Your modelling area was already the envy of many and now doubly so! Next thing we'll know you'll have an adjourning bedroom in case you need a nap.

PS if you ever want to get rid of the amusing hobby leopard, let me know.

BTW. HUGELY jealous you lucky barstool. Mind you the flooding would have been fun. You’ll definitely need to post photos of this build mate.

I've got some at home of the garage with the ceiling part pulled down, the builders are coming in next Monday then it's full steam ahead. I've got to get the design done so I know where to put all the sockets, I'll also work out the lights, each light provides approx 150W at 120 degree downlight.
I'm also going to get tiered paint racks laser cut by the same company, they'll be 3m long and should hopefully hold most of my paints. But I might allow a wall mounted rack for overflow
Modelling is my main hobby, I don't do much else, it's not like I spend my money on beer, bbq's, rugby or boats etc. The daughter left home and things are a bit easier so why not splurge before I get much older and can't appreciate or see it.............
Don't be jealous, I'll be dead before you anyway :P

Use them somewhere else. Look at Switch Lighting. They have an ART series downlight that offers a CRI of 97. That's almost sunlight quality. I'm thinking of getting some

Switch lighting low glare downlight

PS: I'm not affiliated with Switch in any way but they're the best LED I've seen yet, give the Philips Graphica T8 fluorescent lamps a run

They're only 4000 Kelvin lights the ones I'm looking at are 5K white and they cost $10 each.
I'm getting two to test before I buy more.

Check out their CRI in the R9, if it's really low they may not be good for browns

I can provide a long technical explanation about colour temperature, correlated colour temperature, and colour rendering. Many people believe the CCT (4000K vs 6000K etc has to do with colour rendering but it's actually measuring a different factor of the light)

Matt's a personal friend I've known for many years and yes I have the book on the shelf :D
It's biography written by Bill with Matt assisting it's a personal account and very good.
I should add that Matt has spent over 20 years researching 159 Squadron so any references to 159 will be as accurate as can be.

Thanks but I'm on a large but fairly tight budget, to the point where I'm working out how many cuts will be needed and how many metres of edge banding will be needed in the units I'm having made up.
The room lighting won't necessarily be what I'm modelling by, I'll have additional light above and around my workspace as I do now.

I'm still roughing the room layout and designing the units prior to going in to full build mode including hardware. Then I can give the cutting list to the workshop who will cut it, edge it, do all the CNC drilling I need for dowels, door closers, runners etc.

I'm not decided if I should raise the bottom of the cabinets up and make a wee 100mm plinth on the bottom or maximise the display space, decisions decisions

Room with display cases roughed out.

Open a window or drop $1,000 on light bulbs.............. :)
I might look at them for over my actual workbench, was good to see the stats on them though.
I do tend to wonder though, most of these products are made in China anyway, is there really a difference between the ones made in the factory during the day and the ones made in the factory at night for 1/10 the cost.

Back when printer ink used to cost more per kg than gold we looked at some genuine cartridges vs cheap knock off brands. They had identical tooling marks on them so we always wondered.....
