Hi Modellers,
My partner and I have had a bad week down here in Palmy. Our favourite moggy Codi; a semi rare in NZ Manx cat, was mauled by a roaming dog last Wednesday evening. We are extremely fortunate to have the outstanding Massey University Vet School and Hospital here. Over the week our Codi girl went through a number of treatments and underwent surgery yesterday. The wonderful vets did everything they could for our lass but sadly she passed away last evening. We have buried her in the front yard with a fruit tree on the site. All that work that Massey put in over the week did not come cheap with the bill being the better part of $4,500.
There goes the replacement car and anything new in either or our hobby areas for quite some time. The things we do for family, and YES, she was our baby and it hurts. So there we are. I just needed to get that off my chest amoungst those that are also like family - you lot. Be well, And take care of All those you love. And happy modelling out there you lot . . .

I might be able to get back to the bench soon . . . :S

David

Yes, very sad. Regardless of the money, our pets are part of our whānau. My wife and I lost our cat of 18 years last year (well 18 years with wifey). I still see things out of the corner of my eye and think its her? My sincere sympathies mate

So sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our Scottish Fold to a car a while back - sheeesh it was like losing a mate - they really do become family. Take care - modelling is great therapy - Regards Paul.

Sorry to hear that mate, I know how you feel.
I wouldn't dream of having a pet without insurance these days. I spent the equivalent of what you spent have 3 disks fused on a previous pooch and that made me get insurance for our pets.

My sincere commiserations Dave. It seems to be a recurring theme on KM with pets being lost to things other than old age. We lost our cat just over a year ago to avoidable circumstances where he was run down by a motorist speeding through nearby road works. I work from home, so it was like losing family and a work mate all at once, the only happiness was the likely rejoicing of the local rat population!

So sorry to hear you loss Dave.

When animals pass, they certainly leave a big hole in your heart.

A couple of dogs from a Facebook page that I follow have passed in the last week. Both of these dogs owned by different people had been sick for a couple of days. So their owners took them to their vets. The owners of one were told their boy had inoperable stomach cancer. They got to take him home that night and then the next day he was put to sleep.

The other dog's diagnosis was that the pancreatitis he had suffered from for a couple of years had flared up again. The vet put him on fluids and medication and he seemed to be responding well. The next day they were expecting to pick him up and take him home to recover. Unfortunately the vet called in the morning and told them that they needed to go to the clinic immediately to say goodbye as he had deteriorated badly overnight. He passed away 10 mins after the phone call, so they didn't make it in time.

I lost my elderly cat late 2015 after a short illness which the vet couldn't diagnose. I adopted her years ago, so don't know exactly how old she was, but believe she was 16+ years. I knew she didn't have long to go, but it was still a shock when she died.

My Sincere Thanks for your commiserations guys, It certainly is tough being without my shadow. We also work from home and Codi would regularly be found within a metre or so of wherever I was, indoors or out. That is a 7 year old, now big empty space . She was an SPCA rescue cat and I'd recommend them for anyone looking to add a new animal to the household. Once the pain subsides we will probably pay them a visit again.

Thanks for the sharing of your own stories too, and my own commiserations to you all who have been here before.

There are now three cats and a chook throughout our gardens, each growing something special.

Go well.

Really sorry to hear your news Dave. The little critters sure do become part of the family. I was given a stray kitten just over two years ago - I wasn't even planning on getting pet - and now I couldn't imagine the house without her.

Vets certainly know how to charge. First visit for the kitten, the vet said she was too young to start vaccinations so I paid $100 for a 3min consultation which confirmed that 'Yes, it is a cat. Bring her back in a fortnight'.

I've got two dogs and a cat in little sealed wooden boxes up on the top of our cabinets. I brought my old dog and the cat from England, and I'll take them all with me when/if we move again.

I'm so sorry mate, i know its a lot of cash, made worse by the fact she didn't pull through, but you know you did the right thing, the only thing you could do.

My two dogs are my family, in-distinguishable from the other non furry humans in the mix. i love them to bits.

it really pisses me off that other people aren't as responsible a pet owner as the rest of us, one of my dogs has a real dislike for cats, which is why he is in a secure fenced area at home and always on the lead when not (except for the dog park) i would be horrified if anything happened.

I'm really sorry for your loss. only people with pets they love understand whats its like to loose one.

It looks as though my young cat "Sherman" may be gone. He went MIA last Thursday and Ive not seen anything of him since. He arrived on the front lawn of the old house on the day Fury went on public release here so he could only have one name and with loosing my partner last year to that bloody illness he was a tower of strength for me as i have never known such an affectionate cat ( Ihave four others). Ive done the sheets in the street, went to the little old lady whose home is backed onto mine and today at the SPCA who suggested I hang my unwashed shirt on the clothes line so he may home in on scent.
If he is around I know they can come back after some time but if he did make an end I hope that he went down fighting just like the crew in Fury did but it really sucks.
