Hey folks
I've had enough of this hosting company, so we're uping sticks and moving. There's a lot of work to do and I'm sure there's lots of hickups in the pipeline, I've put up with all the outages and piss poor performance and had nothing constructive back so it's time to move hosts.
The site will be up and down for a few days maybe up to a week but we will be back so please be patient.
Many thanks
Gary

Hey Andrew
Thanks for the support it's really appreciated, yeah this outfit offer a LOT more for my money. I'm now officially a hosting company as well :)
The move hasn't gone as well as I anticipated, it's been a very manual process. Normally I just pick up the file structure, export/import the databases, change the config file and we're away. But for some reason it's not like that so I'm having to manually rebuilid all of the components and then do the import over the top, it's a slow process but it does give me a chance to weed out some of the crap things I've added and not fully removed over the last year.
I can't move the DNS name to the new host yet as I need to copy all the settings from the old site as I go, so you'll have to use that address for a few more days yet, sorry folks.
Thanks for your patience.
Gary

You should be able to go back to using the old address soon, I changed the DNS for the domain name this morning so it should start replicating around the net in the next 24 - 48 hours.

Oooh yet another update, just put a permanent redirect in on the old host, so all traffic for www.kiwimodeller.com will now be redirected here 50.116.98.128/~kmodel/ once the DNS is propagated around the net you will come direct here.

In a weird coincidence Armorama went down at the same time. Looks like they haven't been doing their backups regularly as they've only just restored the site but to a six week old point.

My wife calls me a curmudgeon. I haven't looked it up but I assume it means "fun loving and free spirited" or some such twaddle. I inform and perform over at www.militarymodels.co.nz and stick my oar in here as well. My passion is WWII 1/35 armour but I'm coming around to liking the odd 1/32 thing...

Nah it took about 8 hours each way to transfer the sites, this site is huge with all the photos and such, had to download it all and then upload it all, so set it doing each task and buggered off out :D

Great work, Gary. Minor interruption is never a prob when improvements are the cause.
I appreciate the lengths you go to for our 'little corner of the world'.

Kind regards

FYI until the DNS is fully resolving to the new Nameservers internal email won't be working so you won't get any notifications for things like Private Messages and reply to topics etc. Had to put a ticket in to another company to investigate the DNS issue, it's all go :)

For those of us that are using the KM Signature jpg file on other sites, don't worry it will come right as soon as the DNS is replicated. Basically when you type in kiwimodeller.com all requests are forwarded to the static IP address of 50.116.98.128 the image file for the signature isn't translating to that IP address.
It does still work as you can see here
http://50.116.98.128/~kmodel/images/signature.jpg
Once it's all working you can just go back to using kiwimodeller.com/images/signature.jpg

It appears that the DNS changes have replicated, everything should be back to normal now, there might still be some email notification errors let me know if you aren't getting the notifications that you expect.
I've still got some things to add back like the links etc but most of the site should be operational now.
Any other problems please log them in the Bugs section of the forums.
