I’m going with the box top scheme. Checked the box tonight and inside is a CMK update set, which includes cockpit and seat, radar and avionics bays, so I will open this one up.
There is also a Master brass pitot in the box, which means I’ll just need an exhaust and some wheels, which means an order to Reskit.
I also have a photo of the same aircraft armed with an Aspide (Italian-made Sparrow knock-off) and an AIM-9. Not sure whether I’ll keep it clean or add the missiles, but think I need to get a ladder too.
Waiting for some paint to dry in the F-4J, so I started with a box of Starfighter sprues and resin, and after about 4 hours this evening, have something starting to resemble an F-104. The Hasegawa kit is very easy to build and this is my 4th (and probably last) build of this model.
As the jet is very plain looking on its own, I decided to use the CMK set I had loitering for the cockpit and avionics. I have opened up the avionics bays and inserted the resin parts.
I cut off the rear of the upper fuselage resin insert, as the CMK set has an ammo canister moulded there, but the S has no gun and had an extra fuel tank there, so will need to scratch build that.
I’ve ordered Reskit wheels and exhaust from BNA which should be here next week.
BNA package arrived yesterday with the F-104 goodness in it. When I was ordering, I stumbled on a set of decals from a company I had not heard of before, but they are beautiful, so this kit now just needs a good seat and I have all I need to complete it. The Reskit exhaust is a stunning piece of aftermarket, and is 8 pieces of resin and photo etch. Can't wait to get that assembled and painted. Will look very nice.
There are render of the various bits as too lazy to take any pics today, but show what is in the various sets
Armory wheels. I'll be using the nosewheel without the spokes for this one. Full tread and tire logos on each wheel.
