1/48 Allison V-1710 question was created by Handbag87
Hi team,
I'm planning a future 1/48 P-40K-5 build to feature an exposed/cowls-off engine and I've learned the subject aircraft had a -73 engine, apparently also known as a -F.

So the question is: which 1/48 V-1710 is the best choice to represent this variant/sub-model? Scalemates lists nine options, are any of those suitable or is anything more accurate out there? I'm told the CMK version looks like an F - thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers, Zac in Whanganui

The Allison V-1710-73 was specific to the P-40K-5. The factory designation for this engine variation was F4R in the F-series engines found in P-40, P-38 and P-51. From a modelling perspective, there were basically two designs of Allison fitted to the P-40. The early C-series engine fitted to the early P-40CU, B & C and the F-series fitted to the P-40D onward. You want the CMK 4032 for the F-series engine.
