I got my MR.PAINT from Europe through a trader on EBAY..Maybe that could be an option for the AK stuff too?
Get it direct from AK, if you spend over 180 Euros you get free shipping, just scrape a few orders together from different people and you'll soon be over that limit then split the cost if there's any import fees (I looked on the website and the most you'll pay is $113 import fees for 180 Euros, they didn't put the value on my package).
Then split the goods, just don't be a git and try to sell anything on or it'll bite everyone involved.
I think you'll find the delay is because they have to deal through the nz distributor (rather than cutting him out and dealing direct with AK), and due to them being what they are (dangerous or not) they get shipped via seafreight. So it is a case of it will get here when it gets here. Dave has said they will stock it but have to wait for it to arrive, no doubt all the other nz retailers who stock AK will be the same. Main problem with living where we do unfortunately.
I think it's more of a trade restriction than anything else. They won't send the Mr Metal range because of this reason. I asked if it was a shipping issue, but they said they're not even allowed to send it here via surface. Similar issue with the Berkley soft bait range (if you're into fishing, you'll know the brand I'm talking about). Best bet is to get it sent to a friend in Aus and get them to send it surface post.
DG regs are not something you can mess around with as a retailet. Think major fines, loss of shipping/export privilages etc. The NZ disty is supposed to be getting them in but it is a slow process. Plus Ill need to see the msds paperwork first before I can confirm if/how we're able to send them ourselves. If they'rr going to need DG paperwork then that'll make them pricey as those tickrts don't come cheap.
From what I have read they are essentially the same as Gunze/tamiya like Phil said. When I was at supercheap auto we used to send paint spraycans on normaly courier and as long as it was under a certain amount qty wise and the box was marked we had no issues on normal couriers. But as Dave said, failure to adhere to DG transporting regulations can net some pretty big fines amongst other things.
